The MedStar Health—Georgetown/Washington Hospital Center Fellowship Program in Breast Oncology
The Georgetown University Hospital Breast Oncology Fellowship program provides a comprehensive experience using a multidisciplinary approach to patient management. This program promotes the growth of leadership skills, teamwork, and collaborative patient management.
The Breast Oncology Fellowship is a one-year program and is SSO (Society of Surgical Oncology) accredited. The program accepts two fellows each year. Learn more about the exciting opportunity presented by this special fellowship.

In addition to extensive and varied surgical experience, fellows have substantial exposure to breast imaging techniques and interpretation, mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI, image-guided biopsy, and localizations using wireless technology. The fellows also have experience in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Cancer Rehabilitation, Genetics, and Research.Our faculty members are well-known leaders in the management and treatment of breast disease and cancer, and are leaders in the arena of clinical research in cancer care.
The program offers a robust, interdisciplinary didactic lecture series, allowing faculty to share the compilation of topics including genetics, risk, latest treatments, technologies, and surgical procedures in the treatment of breast cancer. Quarterly journal clubs supplement the fellows’ clinical and surgical experience.
Breast Fellows will rotate through MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center spending a total of six months at each location, alternating every three months. This 12-month experience will provide a broad interaction with the multiple disciplines that comprise the regional program.
In addition, the fellows will participate in a variety of educational experiences through the year to develop discipline-specific expertise, including but not limited to:
- Breast education and self-assessment program (BESAP)
- Journal club
- Disciplinary Tumor Board
