At MedStar Health Gastroenterology at Southern Maryland Hospital Center Endoscopy Center, our specialists provide comprehensive care for the digestive system, from common concerns to complex gastrointestinal diseases. We treat conditions of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, pancreas, and bile ducts, including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.

Advanced Endoscopy program
Our Advanced Endoscopy Program brings highly specialized expertise to Southern Maryland. Led by fellowship-trained advanced endoscopists, our team performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using state-of-the-art technology, all on site. This allows patients to access advanced, minimally invasive care without leaving their community.
These advanced services include:
Pancreatic and biliary care
- On-site endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to diagnose and treat bile duct and pancreatic conditions
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to evaluate pancreatic cysts and determine next steps
- EUS-guided biopsy when tissue samples are needed
- Ongoing monitoring of pancreatic cysts, following expert guidelines
Advanced therapeutic procedures
- Placement of stents in the esophagus, bile ducts, or pancreas to relieve blockages
- Endoscopic treatment of narrowed areas (strictures), both cancerous and noncancerous
- Removal of large or complex colon polyps
- Care for serious upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding
Inflammatory Bowel Disease care
- Treatment for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
- Coordinated care when advanced therapies or additional specialists are needed
Seamless access to expert care
We work closely with MedStar Health specialists in surgery, oncology, and hepatopancreatobiliary care. If more complex treatment or transplant services are needed, we ensure a smooth and coordinated referral within the MedStar Health network.
