Where to park at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is located at 3800 Reservoir Road, NW in Washington, D.C. For your convenience, there are two parking garages (Parking 1 and Parking 2) available for patients and visitors, including:

Parking 1 accessible via Entrance 1 - self parking (no valet parking) 

Located at the intersection of Reservoir Rd. and 38th St., NW.



Parking 2
accessible via Entrance 2 - valet parking, wheelchair assistance, and limited self-parking

Selecting a parking garage

  • Entrance 1, Parking 1 (Emergency Department (ER), surgical and outpatient appointments)

    Accessible via Entrance 1, our Parking 1 garage offers three levels of underground self-parking below the Verstandig Pavilion. Please note that valet parking is not available at this entrance. If you have mobility limitations, please bring a capable adult with you to assist you in getting to your appointment.

    This is the best place to park if you are visiting our hospital for the following

    • Emergency Department - Patient drop-off on Ground/Street Level or park in the Parking 1 garage on any level. Take the elevator to the Ground Level.

    • Appointments in the Pasquerilla Healthcare Center (PHC building) -
      Interior of the parking garage at entrance 2 at MedStar Health Georgetown University Hospital.Follow the signs to enter the underground garage. Once inside the garage follow signs to PHC. Parking is located on levels P2 or P3. PHC parking is located in the purple section of the garage. If you have mobility limitations, please bring an adult with you who can assist in getting you to your appointment or use Entrance 2, which is the only location for valet parking. 

    • Surgical procedures (both inpatient and outpatient) - Patient drop-off is available on the Ground/Street Level or park in the Parking 1 garage on any level. Take the elevator to the Ground Level. 

    • Visiting a patient admitted to the Verstandig Pavilion - Park in the Parking 1 garage on any level. Take the elevator to the Ground Level.  


    Getting to the hospital from the Parking 1 garage

    After driving in Entrance 1, patients can be dropped off in front of the Verstandig Pavilion. To park in the Parking 1 patient and visitor parking garage, proceed around the roundabout and veer to the right into the underground garage. Once you’re inside the parking garage, take the nearest elevator to the main lobby/Ground Level of the Verstandig Pavilion. Wheelchairs are available at the entrance.

  • Entrance 2, Parking 2 (Valet parking and buildings: Main, CCC, Lombardi, Bles, and Gorman)

    We offer valet parking and wheelchair assistance via Entrance 2, Parking 2 garage, as well as limited self-parking. We encourage patients who need assistance parking or entering the hospital to use this parking garage entrance regardless of their destination. If you have mobility limitations, please bring a capable adult with you to assist you in getting to your appointment.

    Patients and their loved ones should park here if they are visiting the following:

    • Main building

    • Concentrated Care Center (CCC building)

    • Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center

    • Bles building

    • Gorman building

    Getting to the hospital from the Parking 2 garage

    After driving in Entrance 2, go straight and proceed around the small traffic circle. Then take a right to enter our Parking 2 patient and visitor parking garage. Once inside the garage, your car will be valet parked. If you need assistance getting out of your car, our staff will be happy to assist you.

    Next, take the elevator or stairs to the Hospital level (press the H button in the elevator). Continue across the brick patio to enter the hospital via the glass doors. One of our “red coat” greeters will be available to check you in and help you find your destination.

Public transportation to MedStar Georgetown

We are accessible by public transportation, including Metrobus and Metrorail. Additionally, shuttle buses are available for free for patients, visitors, and families to and from the Dupont Circle (Massachusetts Avenue and 20th Street) and Rosslyn Metro station (pick up and drop off at the Bus Bay B on N. Moore Street).

Parking discounts

Parking discounts are available to patients and their families. Validations are required for all discounted patient and visitor parking. Validations are available at the information desks at the following locations:

  • Main building, 1st Floor
  • Verstandig Pavilion, Ground Floor
  • Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1st Floor
  • PHC building, Ground Floor
  • Emergency Department security (nights and weekends)

Parking validation is no longer provided in clinics or departments.

You can pay for parking in the garages using your credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express), debit card (Visa, MasterCard), or cash.

 

  • Outpatient parking discounts

    For hourly/daily parking

    Discounted patient parking ($3/first hour, $5/second hour, and third hour maximum for the day of $7) is available for patients. To receive this special rate, please obtain parking validation from the physician's office, point of service, or registration desk.

    For continuing treatment (more than two visits per week)

    A $3 per day parking pass can be purchased at the Parking Offices located in the patient and visitor parking garages on the following parking levels:

    • Level P1 (Parking 1 garage)

    • Level 3 (Parking 2 garage)

    Patients should request a letter of authorization from the department or clinic and are authorized to purchase as many passes as deemed necessary for treatment duration.

  • Inpatient parking discounts

    Discounted patient parking ($3/first hour, $5/second hour, and third hour maximum for the day of $7) is available for patients and their visitors.

    After 4 days

    A $3-per-day discounted parking pass can be purchased from the Parking Offices located in the patient and visitor parking garages on the following parking levels:

    • Level P1 (Parking 1 garage)

    • Level 3 (Parking 2 garage)

    After a 30-day consecutive stay

    Two free parking passes per patient are available from the parking office located in the patient and visitor parking garages on the following parking levels:

    • Level P1 (Parking 1 garage)

    • Level 3 (Parking 2 garage)

    Additional passes can be purchased at the $3 discounted rate.

Additional parking information

Vehicle restrictions at Canal Road campus entrance

Only patients of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and patients participating in Yates Aquatic Therapy may use the Canal Road entrance, and they must have a document given to them by MedStar Georgetown to obtain access through this entrance.

Metro access and paratransit services

All Metro access and paratransit providers pick up and drop off at the West Wing circle via Entrance 2.

Oversized vehicles

Vehicles taller than 6 feet 2 inches (including vehicles that have been modified with large tires or accessories) will not safely fit inside the patient and visitor Parking 2 garage. However, our Parking 1 garage can accommodate vehicles up to the following:

  • P1: 9 feet 8 inches

  • P2 and P3: 7 feet six inches

If your vehicle is larger than this, please use another way to arrive at the hospital. Thank you for your cooperation.

Vehicle assistance

If you have trouble starting your car, please ask for assistance from a parking attendant. After 5:30 p.m., please call Protective Services at 202-444-3800.

Public transportation

  • Shuttle bus and mini-shuttle bus service

    Shuttle bus service/Georgetown University Transportation System (GUTS) is available for free for patients, visitors, and families to and from the Dupont Circle (Massachusetts Avenue and 20th Street) and Rosslyn Metro station (Bus Bay B). Please note that the hospital's shuttle bus provider, Abe’s Transportation, will ask all staff, volunteers, and patients to present a valid ID (hospital ID, driver's license, or state ID, etc.) before they can use the shuttle bus. This process is required by the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority. For the shuttle schedule, please visit transportation.georgetown.edu/guts.

    Face coverings are optional for all shuttle bus riders.

    All shuttle buses enter the University campus via Canal Road and pick up and drop off passengers in the shuttle bus loop by the McDonough Gym.

    Mini-shuttle bus service is available to assist people getting from the shuttle bus loop to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The service provides three 10-seat mini-shuttle buses and will pick up and drop off passengers in two locations:

    • McDonough Gym shuttle bus loop

    • Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center traffic circle

    Hospital employees must show their ID badge when boarding. Patients or patient family members need to inform the driver that they are coming to the hospital for a medical reason.

  • Metrobus and Metrorail

    Metrobus and Metrorail systems are very accessible and user friendly. Shuttle buses to the hospital are available at the Dupont and Rosslyn metro stations. The D6 bus stops directly in front of the hospital.

  • Taxis and airport service buses

    Taxis and airport service buses can take you to the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Just tell the driver to enter at Entrance 1 or Entrance 2, depending on where you are going in the hospital. There is a 15 minute grace period for parking, so taxis can enter and exit without charge.

  • From Washington

    From Northwest Washington: Take Wisconsin Avenue south to Reservoir Road. Turn right.

    From Southeast Washington: Take Pennsylvania Avenue west to Independence Avenue. Bear left. Take Independence to 12th Street, NW and turn right. Take 12th Street to K Street and turn left. Follow K Street to Whitehurst Freeway. Turn left onto Canal Road. Stay in the right lane. Bear right onto Foxhall Road. Turn right at Reservoir Road.

    From Northeast Washington: Take Rhode Island Avenue west until it feeds into M Street. Take M Street to Wisconsin Avenue. Turn right onto Wisconsin Avenue. Take Wisconsin Avenue to Reservoir Road and turn left.

  • From Maryland

    From I-270: Take I-270 south toward Washington. Exit Route 355 Wisconsin Avenue south. Take Wisconsin Avenue south to Reservoir Road. Turn right.

    From I-95: Take I-95 south to I-495 west to Silver Spring. Exit Route 355 Wisconsin Avenue south to Washington. Take Wisconsin Avenue south to Reservoir Road. Turn right.

    From Baltimore-Washington Parkway or Route 50 westbound: Take B-W Parkway or Route 50 west to New York Avenue. Take New York Avenue to L Street. Bear right. Turn left on 10th Street, NW and then right on K Street. Follow K Street to Whitehurst Freeway. Turn left onto Canal Road. Stay in the right lane. Bear right onto Foxhall Road. Turn right at Reservoir Road.

  • From Northern Virginia

    From I-66: Take I-66 East to the Rosslyn-Key Bridge exit. Stay in the left lane and then make the third left onto Lynn Street and follow it over Key Bridge. Stay in the left lane across Key Bridge. Turn left onto Canal Road. Stay in the right lane. Bear right onto Foxhall Road. Turn right onto Reservoir Road.

    From I-395: Take I-395 North. Exit Washington Boulevard to Rosslyn. Take Washington Boulevard and follow signs to Rosslyn and Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge. Turn left onto Canal Road. Stay in the right lane. Bear right onto Foxhall Road. Turn right at Reservoir Road.

    From Route 50 eastbound: Follow Route 50 east and take Rosslyn-Key Bridge exit. Follow signs to Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge and turn left onto Canal Road. Stay in the right lane. Bear right onto Foxhall Road. Turn right at Reservoir Road.

    From George Washington Parkway: Take the GW Parkway south. Exit Key Bridge. Cross bridge and turn left onto Canal Road. Stay in the right lane. Bear right onto Foxhall Road. Turn right at Reservoir Road.
