Standard radiation can involve five to six weeks of therapy. But with TARGIT IORT, there is a single dose delivered in the operating room immediately following a lumpectomy. Ask your MedStar provider if a lumpectomy and TARGIT IORT might be right for you.

Breast Surgery
Studies show that patients operated on by specialized surgeons get better results. That’s one of the reasons why the surgeons in our Breast Health Program are all board-certified and have additional training in treating disease of the breast.
The choice to undergo reconstructive surgery after mastectomy or lumpectomy is a personal one. In addition to coping with a cancer diagnosis, women are faced with surgical treatment options that they fear may leave them “disfigured” or “less of a woman.”
The majority of women who have a family history of breast cancer do not face a hereditary risk of breast cancer. Our genetic counselors can provide an individualized risk assessment.
