About me

Patrick Bering, MD, is a clinical cardiologist who is the medical director for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He is a member of the MedStar cardiovascular imaging team with a focus on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart).

Dr. Bering performs a variety of diagnostic imaging tests, including: transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), stress echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and thoracic magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). He participates in treating structural heart disease by performing intraprocedural TEE guidance.

He is involved in clinical research for investigational medical options to treat hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He participates as a cardiac imager in research projects utilizing echocardiography and cardiac MRI to characterize heart conditions like cardiomyopathy and valvular heart disease.

Philosophy of Care
"I am passionate about clinical care for patients and their family members with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.  HCM is a condition that wears many faces and is unique to each individual.  My approach relies on empowering patients through education about their condition and treatment options. We engage in shared decision making to find a plan best suited to their goals and wishes.  As a cardiac imaging specialist, I can translate diagnostic results directly into clinical decisions.  I am proud that our multidisciplinary MedStar team offers high quality, personalized care to patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the Washington, DC community and beyond!"

I've never had a more caring, personable or inclusive doctor . I've never had a dr show more personal interest and relate my condition and treatment options to how I live my life. He was patient and took all the time needed for a full explanation and understanding.
