Applicant Information—The MedStar Health—Georgetown University Hospital Residency Program in Psychiatry

Each year, the MedStar Georgetown Psychiatry Residency Training Program accepts applications for nine PGY-1 positions. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Interviews are by invitation only and are a required component of the application process. All interviews will be virtual this year and will take place between October 20th, 2023, and January 31st, 2024. The interview is designed to provide applicants with information with different aspects of our program and to "meet" some of our residents and faculty.

Qualifications considered in the selection process include:

1. Global performance in medical school, including:

  • Dean's letter
  • Transcript
  • USMLE and/or COMLEX examination scores
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation

2. Other information:

  • Personal statement/Motivation for Psychiatry
  • Supplemental application (if applicable, including signals, geographic preferences, meaningful experiences and lived experience)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • ECFMG certification, if applicable. (For International Medical Graduates, we will accept only a J-1 visa sponsored by the ECFMG)
