About me
Anousheh Sayah, MD is Director of Spine Imaging and Associate Professor of Neuroradiology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She serves as an attending physician in both neuroradiology and neurointerventional radiology. She is board certified in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology. Dr. Sayah is also a native of the Washington, DC area.
After attending the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Sayah completed a adiology residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. This was followed by two neuroradiology fellowships at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Her latter year of training was focused on the performance of image-guided spine procedures and neurointervention.
Dr. Sayah has an active practice involving spine imaging using CT and MRI technology, as well as myelography. She is co-founder and integral part of the CSF Leaks Disorder Program at Medstar Georgetown. She actively performs image-guided spine interventions such as spinal epidural steroid injections (i.e. spinal nerve blocks); spinal vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty; spinal biopsies; spinal patching; and complex myelography. In addition, Dr. Sayah engages in clinical research involving spine imaging and associated spinal procedures.
Dr. Sayah's Philosophy of Care
My focus is imaging of the brain, head and neck, and notably, the spine. The latter is my main interest, as I am also involved with image-guided treatments of the spine and spine-related conditions, including epidural steroid injections and vertebroplasty / kyphoplasty. Of specific note, I perform most epidural steroid injections with CT guidance which generally shows the anatomy in and around the spine, including the nerve roots, in much greater detail than simple x-ray fluoroscopy. We are currently engaged in developing our CSF Leaks Disorder Program, which is a collaboration with our colleagues in Neurosurgery and Neurology.
In regards to treating the patient, I believe in listening to the patient and understanding the problem as a whole before deciding to treat, how to treat, or potentially not to treat. It is important to take a multidisciplinary approach in all matters, both in terms of diagnosing via imaging, as well as treating via injections or cement augmentation of the spine.
