Welcome to the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center

At the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, the expertise and range of services offered are unrivaled in the Washington, D.C. area. Here you’ll find a newly renovated, one-of-a-kind, spa-like clinic designed to provide the most professional breast health care possible by coordinating services across specialties to maximize efficiency and produce optimal outcomes.

Our multidisciplinary tumor board, made up of a broad panel of breast experts, work within steps of each other, providing seamless and comprehensive management of each patient’s condition. In one visit, you may be seen by a doctor or nurse practitioner who specializes exclusively in breast health, by a radiologist who dedicates their practice to interpreting mammograms only, or by a surgeon who focuses solely on breast surgery.

Housed within the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the District of Columbia’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, our breast cancer program includes clinicians, as well as basic and translational scientists, who are involved in studies ranging from preclinical models to treatment and outcomes. Our program supports the development of novel investigator-initiated clinical trials across the continuum, outreach and research activities among underserved communities, and breast cancer patient advocacy.

As part of our comprehensive cancer care, we offer tailored prevention and screening services to guide patients who may have an increased risk of developing breast cancer due to factors such as genetics, a family history of breast cancer, gynecologic history, and lifestyle factors. Called the THRiVE (The High Risk Evaluation and Education) Program, the goal is to help patients understand, manage, and reduce their risk for developing breast cancer. Patients can be referred by a physician, a genetic counselor, or may choose to contact our program directly.

Whether you’re looking for preventive services, exploring treatment options, or want to request a second opinion regarding a breast cancer diagnosis, you can be sure that everything you need is offered at the Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
