MedStar Health is proud to offer LSVT LOUD® and LSVT BIG® for those with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. Our certified therapists will work with you to discuss your goals and the plan of care that works best for you.
LSVT LOUD® is provided by a registered speech-language pathologist (SLP) who is certified in the program. The SLP will work with you to address difficulties in speaking and practice using your voice at a “normal loudness” in the clinic setting, so you can have improved communication at home, work, and in the community.
LSVT BIG® is provided by a licensed physical therapist (PT) or physical therapy assistant (PTA) who is certified in the program. In physical therapy, you will practice using small and large motor tasks to achieve your goals and improve your independence at home. Physical therapy will focus on the tasks that you need in order to walk and safely move about at home and in the community.
LSVT LOUD® and LSVT BIG® are each intensive programs that focus on training and repetition. Each program starts with treatment four days per week for at least four weeks. After that, you will review your progress and your plan with your therapist, who will make additional recommendations.
You may only need one program or both, depending on your goals.
Both LSVT LOUD® and LSVT BIG® require a physician’s referral to initiate an evaluation and treatment at MedStar Health.
