Richard Goldberg, MD

Richard Goldberg, MD, is president of MedStar Medical Group, MedStar Health’s comprehensive physician network. In this role, Dr. Goldberg leads operations and future development of MedStar Medical Group. He also is charged with expanding and growing relationships with the system’s aligned independent physicians.

Previously, Dr. Goldberg served as president at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and a senior vice president for MedStar Health. In this role, Goldberg was responsible for the overall strategic and operational direction including the hospital's clinical enterprise and faculty practice.

Goldberg also served as MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's chief medical officer and vice president of Medical Affairs, where he managed the distribution of tuition funds among clinical departments and acted as a liaison with the School of Medicine regarding the education of medical students. He also served as dean for clinical affairs and graduate medical education, as well as medical director, and chair of the Faculty Practice Group and Department of Psychiatry.

A graduate of Georgetown University Medical Center, Goldberg completed his residency at the Georgetown University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Hobart College in New York and has clinical experience in general adult and geriatric psychiatry. Goldberg is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry.

Goldberg is a current member of the American Psychosomatic Society and the Washington Psychiatric Society, and serves as an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has authored several articles and reviews for professional journals, and is a recipient of the Society for Physician Analysts' H.P. McLaughlin Award.
