Bariatric Surgery: Successes
 
As Tyrone Harrison (pictured above) gained weight, his diabetes spiraled out of control and he was afraid he might lose a leg or go blind. Obesity comes with health risks—diabetes, high cholesterol, joint pain and sleep apnea. Tyrone turned to the Bariatric Surgery Program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He lost 102 pounds in six months, as well as his diabetes.

New Heart Hospital Opens
          
 
Some heart patients are now being treated in the new Heart Hospital, part of MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute. The opening of the new 60-bed unit marks the completion of Phase I of four phases in the construction of the first dedicated Heart Hospital in the nation's capital. The entire 164-bed, state-of-the-art facility will be located on six floors and is scheduled to be finished in the spring of 2016.
