Our success is built upon a long-standing history of collaboration across departments, specialties, and physicians to create a team-centered environment focused on patient care. Together, the program offers the full range of services necessary for optimal therapies and results, systematic follow-up and continuity of care, including:
From minimally invasive robotic procedures to complex vascular reconstruction, our fellowship-trained, board-certified surgeons do it all. We treat the most complex cases with 50 years of combined surgical experience in pancreatic cancer, and we treat more patients with liver diseases than any other center in the region. We’re one of the only centers in the country offering total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplant for chronic pancreatitis. By pioneering robotic, laparoscopic, and hybrid approaches, we’re devising ways to speed your recovery and get you back to living your fullest life. Learn more.
We’re one of the largest centers in the nation, offering cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment options for patients with pancreaticobiliary diseases and for certain cancers. We use radiology techniques to perform procedures in the most minimally invasive way possible, sometimes with no incision at all. This means quicker recovery times to get you back home that same day. We can use these procedures to diagnose conditions, treat tumors, eliminate blockages, and ease your pain. Through the Division’s research program, novel therapies like irreversible electroporation and intra-arterial chemoinfusion for primary pancreatic cancer are also available to you. Each year, our specialists perform hundreds of chemoembolization and radioembolization treatments for primary and metastatic liver cancer. Learn more.
Our team of board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologists specialize in abdominal body-imaging so we can navigate and diagnose complex conditions of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts. We earned our reputation for accurate diagnosis by performing a high number of core-body MRIs. We leverage this expertise into structuring the best treatment plan for you. Moreover, we are the only program in the area that offers in-person consultations with a radiologist. Learn more.
Cancer care is becoming more and more complex. At the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, we’re constantly innovating with new breakthroughs and treatment options for liver, pancreas, and other GI cancers. The Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, D.C. We offer the full range of current FDA-approved pharmacotherapies. In addition, the Otto J. Ruesch Center for the Cure of Gastrointestinal Cancers seeks individualized cures for liver and pancreas disease through research. Our clinical trials allow you to access treatments that are not otherwise available. Learn more.
At MedStar Health, we offer a full complement of radiation therapy techniques to treat your particular condition, in many cases avoiding surgery altogether and preventing cancer recurrence. These therapies include a variety of advanced radiation methods our team is pioneering. Specifically for pancreatic cancer, we were one of the early programs to develop a short course of radiation with CyberKnife®, which is able to deliver high doses of radiation in a highly targeted fashion. For patients with liver cancers, it's key to spare as much liver as possible from the effects of radiation. With proton therapy with HYPERSCAN™, we are able to treat tumors which may not be good candidates for other therapies using very focused radiation to lessen damage to the normal liver. Learn more.
