Angela D. Thomas, DrPH, MPH, MBA, serves as executive director, MedStar Health Services Research Network, MedStar Health. In this position, she is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for the strategic planning, development, and execution of all administrative operations for the health services research areas of MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI). Dr. Thomas ensures ongoing training and education of research staff and fosters relationships with sponsors and physicians conducting health services research. These research areas include delivery of care, quality, safety, outcomes, telehealth, medical education and palliative care.
Dr. Thomas brings more than 15 years of experience in the administration of translational and clinical research from Federal and non-Federal sponsors. Prior to this role, she served as executive director of MHRI’s Cardiovascular Research Administration. Before joining MHRI, she served as manager of research operations for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Michigan, where she was responsible for the direction of the department’s research administrative functions. While there, she served as a key member of the Pelvic Floor Research Group. In that position, she published and presented, both nationally and internationally, on research related to urinary incontinence in women. Dr. Thomas’ current research interests include health equity and patient safety.
Dr. Thomas received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsychology and the Cognitive Sciences from the University of Michigan. She received a Master of Public Health degree in Health Behavior and Health Education, also from the University of Michigan. Later, she received her Master of Business Administration degree from the Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration and her Doctor of Public Health in Advanced Practice Leadership in Public Health from the University of South Florida.
