Colon and rectal cancer care
Our colon and rectal oncology program delivers expert, personalized care for patients with colon and rectal cancer. As the only National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC)–accredited center in Washington, D.C., we meet the highest national standards for quality, coordination, and outcomes in rectal cancer care. Lung and thoracic oncology care
Our Lung and Thoracic Oncology Program offers highly coordinated, expert care for patients with lung and other thoracic cancers. Orthopedic oncology care
Our Orthopedic Oncology Program provides specialized expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas, as well as benign and other malignant conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system. As the leader in sarcoma care for the MidAtlantic region, our dedicated team of highly skilled orthopedic oncologists works with highly trained medical and radiation oncologists, musculoskeletal pathologists and radiologists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and rehabilitation specialists to deliver expert, coordinated, multidisciplinary care personalized for each patient.
From minimally invasive biopsies to complex limb-sparing surgeries using cutting-edge imaging and intraoperative computerized navigation, to advanced reconstructive techniques, our team is experienced in managing even the most challenging tumors to preserve both function and quality of life. Peritoneal surface malignancy
For those facing peritoneal cancers, our program offers not just expertise, but a path forward.
At MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, we offer rare and highly specialized expertise in the treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies— complex cancers that require advanced, coordinated care.
As one of the few centers in the region with a long history of successfully treating these challenging conditions, our team is uniquely equipped to offer options that many other hospitals simply cannot. We combine decades of surgical experience with the latest in hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) and other innovative therapies to provide hope and healing to patients who may have been told they have limited options.

Patient Support Services
We know treatment can affect more than your health. It can also impact your finances, nutrition, and daily life. Our team includes financial navigators, social workers, a nutritionist, and a patient navigator who work together to support you in every way we can. If you need help with insurance, nutrition, transportation, or personal care items like wigs or clothing, we’re here to help you find what you need.
We also partner with Georgetown Legal Services, which visits weekly to assist with issues such as housing, employment, and Medicaid. Our doors are open. Please reach out anytime.
Meet our patient support services team

Amy Ly, LICSW, MSW, Senior Clinical Social Work Coordinator
Amy works to reduce stressors and barriers to care, enabling patients to focus on their treatment. She provides comprehensive support to ensure patients feel empowered and supported throughout their cancer journey. Her services include counseling; connecting patients to a broad range of resources—including mental health services, food assistance, legal support, durable medical equipment, home health aides, hospice, and government programs; case management; patient advocacy; assistance with insurance and billing concerns; care coordination; and support for caregivers. She is a licensed independent clinical social worker and also holds a master’s degree in social work.
Amy’s approach to care is holistic and informed by person-centered and systems theory. She recognizes each individual’s strengths, unique needs, and right to self-determination, and she emphasizes the importance of engaging not only the patient but also the systems that influence their overall well-being.

Johnnette Jasper, LICSW, MBA, Clinical Social Work Coordinator
In her role as the clinical social work coordinator for the MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Johnnette provides counseling and emotional and practical support to patients and their families. She helps coordinate care, advocates for patients, connects them with resources, and provides intervention in crisis situations. She is a licensed independent clinical social worker and holds a master’s degree in business administration.
When working with patients and their families, Johnnette focuses on collaborating with and guiding patients to empower them as they move through their cancer journey.

Jinny Park, LICSW, Clinical Social Work Coordinator
Jinny supports patients by providing a range of services including case management, crisis management, advocacy, and short term therapeutic support through counseling. She is a licensed independent clinical social worker and also holds a master’s degree in social work.
Jinny’s philosophy of care focuses on providing patients and their families with information and helping them build resilience to support them throughout their cancer journey.

Bola Pariola, BA, Patient Navigator
Bola provides comprehensive support for patients whose access to essential medical care is hindered by lack of transportation, helping them arrange and pay for transportation to and from medical appointments. She also provides wigs, turbans, and eyelashes to support patients’ self-image during and after cancer treatment. She holds a BA degree.
Her focus when working with patients is to help them more easily access care and to support and enhance their sense of wellbeing and self as they manage side effects from their treatment.

Itanya Riley, BA, Patient Financial Coordinator
Itanya supports patients and their families by providing resources and connecting them with services that help reduce the external factors that can cause stress and financial hardship for people living with cancer. She also works to minimize barriers so that patients receive the care they need. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Itanya’s philosophy of care centers on helping patients overcome barriers so they can place their full focus on receiving treatment. By removing these obstacles, she supports patients, helping them to improve their well-being and successfully complete treatment.

Kaliesha Johnson, BA, Patient Financial Coordinator
Kaliesha helps patients and families manage the often complex financial issues related to a cancer diagnosis and treatment. She consults with and assists patients to find ways to make care more affordable and to overcome barriers to accessing the care they need. She holds a bachelor’s degree and has more than 20 years of experience as a patient care navigator.
Kaliesha’s goal is to educate patients and their families about the cost of care and connect them with services and programs that can help them afford care. She works to make each patient’s cancer journey less stressful and treats each one with the care, compassion, and empathy that she would want to be treated with.
Family Circle
A no-cost, whole family care program for parents with cancer, offered at MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
When a parent has cancer, Family Circle is here to help. The program supports parents going through treatment for cancer, as well as their families.
A no-cost program for parents with cancer and helps support them, their cancer caregivers, and children (ages 0-21) across the family’s cancer journey.
As part of the program, families will have the opportunity to receive education and counseling to navigate conversations with children about cancer, manage stress and strengthen coping, and enhance their parenting skills in the context of cancer.
