This is for people who’ve had or are planning to have bariatric surgery. They will receive first hand information about bariatric surgery and learning from the experiences of others. Spouses, family members and friends are always welcome. Guest speakers are often invited to provide information on topics of nutrition, supplements, exercise and behavior modification. The meetings are conducted in a comfortable and informal manner with time for questions and open discussions.

OBTLC Weekend Express was designed to fit your busy lifestyle and give you the information you need to prepare for the birth of your baby. Learn how to choose a birth plan that is right for you, how to reduce discomfort, and how to cope with your body’s changes. You can learn all you need to know about birthing in our one day Weekend Express. Continental breakfast and lunch voucher is provided.

Fee: $110.00 per couple

Breastfeeding: Facts Myths and Techniques at MedStar Franklin Square

This interactive class, taught by a board-certified Lactation Consultant, is designed to help you feel comfortable and confident by preparing you and your baby for breastfeeding. You will get a wealth of information, tips, and guidance to help you and your baby get off to the best start possible during the challenging early days of breastfeeding.  Support person encouraged to attend.

Latino Support Group for Alzheimer’s Caregivers at MedStar Franklin Square

Support groups are regularly scheduled gatherings of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, family, friends, and other care partners. These groups provide emotional, educational, and social support for all participants. Confidentiality is always observed.

Support groups create a safe, confidential, and supportive environment that enables participants to develop mutual support and social relationships. They also provide participants with education about issues related to dementia and support to develop the skills to solve problems. The groups empower caregivers and people with dementia to attain their own personal, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being in an effort to optimally care for themselves and each other.

All support group facilitators are trained initially and on a yearly basis. Chapter staff keeps facilitators up to date on the latest issues including research, behaviors, medication, and caregiver support. Facilitators are monitored yearly to ensure the quality of the groups.

Our team of specialists will discuss topics such as diet, nutrition, exercise and behavior modifications. A bariatric surgeon will be on hand to discuss the procedures available and to answer your questions. Stroke Support Group – MedStar Franklin Square and MedStar Good Samaritan

The MedStar Stroke Support Group is a support group for individuals who have had a stroke as well as their significant others. Members gather for educational programs and social activities. Meetings include informative sessions on stroke-related topics, such as nutrition and stress management. Topics change with each meeting. 

The group meets the first Thursday of the month from 1 to 2:30 p.m., alternating between MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. To register please call 443-777-7900. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Prepared Childbirth 4 week Series at MedStar Franklin Square

Prepare for childbirth by attending a four week class for expectant couples. Learn what happens to the body and the baby during the final phases of pregnancy. Couples will be taught the importance of the birth partner and labor-coping techniques (breathing, relaxation, focusing and positioning) to help deal with labor and facilitate birth. Discover pain management choices.  Time will be spent discussing when to go to the hospital, creating a flexible birth plan and what to expect after the baby is born.  Classes are taught by a Registered Nurse who is also a Childbirth Educator.

Dates for series: November 27, December 4, December 11, December 18.  Fee: $98.00 per couple
